Abernathys Family. . .
Bro. Gary Abernathy was raised in a minister's home. And eventually his own father went to South Africa as a missionary. This exposure to ministry and missions had a profound influence on Gary and two of his brothers who are also ministers with the United Pentecostal Church International.
And so, for Gary and Sharon it was a wonderful blessing from the Lord to be given two sons of their own to raise in a minister's home on the mission field.
When the Abernathys arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, twenty six years ago, the boys were still small. Their oldest son, Jason, was seven years old, and their second son, Brandon, was only two.
Presently:
Jason served twelve years in the United States Marine Corps. He served two tours in Okinawa, Japan and two tours in Iraq and was recommended for a Bronze Star. Through prayer, he was kept safe from two near fatalities and the Abernathys give glory and honor to God for His miraculous protection.
Brandon received an Associate's degree from Indiana Bible College (IBC) in 2000. He was married in June of 2000, to Adrian Gray from Bloomington, Indiana. They moved to Pana, IL and served three years as principal for the Christian school at the Pana United Pentecostal Church - Pastor Robert Russell.
They served for one year as Associates in Missions with the Abernathys in Zambia.
